I decided to have the Alabama Roast again….with a twist.
Here’s the backstory:
I was watching “Modern Marvels” on the History channel (my Dad would be proud) and the episode was about the process of making cheese. This made me crave a grilled cheese sandwich. However, I didn’t want to waste the delicious roast that I had made the night prior. That’s when the lightbulb went off. Add the roast to the grilled cheese sandwich! An absolute stroke of genius.
It was like a miniature Philly Cheese Steak….with a twist.
I used the left over juices to dip my Grilled Cheese Roast Sandwich into. As if it were an au Jus. I have no idea what goes into an au Jus but I know that the fancy restaurants list it on their menu, and I’m certain that the ingredients I used are not in an au Jus. Yes, I realize that makes me sound extremely sheltered and unworldy. Truth be told, I worked in a fine dining restaurant during college. Want me to make steak tartare table side? How about a Caesar Salad? No? You’re missing out.
So tonight’s meal was a Grilled Cheese meets Philly Cheese Steak meets French Dip concoction of awesome. I may have actually made the poor man’s french dip but I still stand firm that it was a stroke of genius.
Lesson learned: Drain the meat really well before placing on the sandwich. Otherwise it turns the sandwich to mush. Again with the mush!
Positive lesson learned: Never limit yourself in the kitchen.
